Senior Living Guidance

I help families navigate the senior living search process by explaining the differences between independent living, assisted living (RCAC and CBRF), memory care, and skilled nursing facilities. I can help identify communities that may match a person's care needs, budget, and long-term goals, including which Wisconsin facilities accept Medicaid through programs such as Family Care and IRIS. My goal is to simplify a complex process, answer questions about levels of care and costs, and help families make informed decisions with confidence.

Wisconsin Senior Living Levels of Care

Every senior living community is different. Molly can help explain the various types of communities available, including:

01: Independent Living

  • For seniors who can live on their own but want maintenance-free living, meals, and social activities.

  • No personal care provided.

  • Private pay only (not covered by Medicaid)

02: RCAC (Residential Care Apartment Complex)

  • Assisted living for seniors who are mostly independent but need some help with medications, bathing, meals, or housekeeping.

  • Apartment-style setting with private units.

  • Some Certified RCACs accept Medicaid through Family Care or IRIS.

03: CBRF (Community-Based Residential Facility)

  • Assisted living with a higher level of care and 24/7 staff supervision.

  • For residents needing regular assistance with daily activities.

  • Many CBRFs accept Medicaid through Family Care.

04: Skilled Nursing (Nursing Home)

  • Highest level of long-term care.

  • Provides 24/7 nursing services, rehabilitation, and medical care.

  • For residents with significant medical or physical care needs.

  • Medicaid commonly covers skilled nursing care for eligible residents.
